Four Leadership Qualities
Uncertainty, unrest, unknown are words we hear and we see played out in our world. These words also have meaning to us, in our personal space. I believe all of us need to examine how we self-lead—how we become the leaders in our personal and work lives that can produce positive change. As we take control of our current situations in our work and home life, let’s consider the importance of:
*Calm compassion. First, we need calm compassion. Compassion with ourselves and others. As we approach what we can do and how we can affect change, I believe it will be the gentle, calm, compassionate approach that will begin to heal us and help us amidst the issues we face. In other words, we need to be the healers. Heart
*Clarity. Situations we face today call for a clear, unbiased, apolitical, humanitarian approach. We face critical issues today besides the coronavirus and racial unrest. We face issues of continued poverty, climate change, global economic change. If we approach our lives and the current situations with clarity, we can create an openness for change and hold onto a vision of hope, possibilities, and mutual partnerships for good. We need to see the issues clearly and be the visionaries for a hopeful future. Vision
*Consciousness. As we step out of our own internal awareness, beyond our self-interest, and self-focus, we can develop awareness on multiple levels—social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.
This internal self-reflection provides us with a deeper understanding of today’s issues beyond the surface. We can employ multiple levels of awareness as we face and begin to solve the problems we face. We need to exemplify an integrated approach to problems. Awareness
*Engagement How do we communicate? How do we listen? What is the exchange that creates openness and encourages mutual solutions to problems? Learning the deep and effective ways to communicate to all people means that we need to become the ultimate listeners and communicators. It is in the two-way authentic conversations that we find the path amidst conflict. Authentic Communication
